Conflict Transformation with Young People (4-Week Course)

Starts Wednesday 29th September (8pm-9.30pm BST)

£95 per person / 20% off second ticket

Conflict is an unavoidable and necessary part of life and it can be managed so that everyone’s needs are met whilst also enabling growth and connection.

Throughout this 4-week course, we will take an in-depth look at the different aspects of a toolkit for developing a needs-based approach to conflict transformation with young people. During this course, you will be invited to attend an optional 30 minute consultation with either Jay or Sarah for free. This is a great way to discuss things in greater detail and get specific advice on any topics particularly relevant to you.

Each week, focusing on different aspects, participants will bring questions, queries, conflict or examples and we will workshop these real-life situations collectively in a supportive, confidential and non-judgmental setting.

We will focus on:

  • Embracing conflict

  • Power dynamics

  • Consent

  • Communicating needs

  • An Unconditional Approach

  • Intent vs impact

  • Conflict resolution

  • Personal boundaries

  • Making agreements & family meetings

Jay Byrd is an OFSTED registered childminder with 8 years experience of working with schooled and home educated children up to the age of 11. She is an advocate of gentle-parenting and needs-based communication and has used these approaches whilst working and volunteering at a children’s democratic community. Jay is trained in NVC and has been using this conflict resolution toolkit in her personal and professional life for many years, including at home with her child.

Sarah Ridgeon has worked for over 10 years as a primary school teacher but has now set up a consent-based, self-directed learning community, Bean Learning Bristol. She has an MSc in the Psychology of Education and supports the young people she works with to resolve conflict using needs-based communication. She has recently completed research into the moral development of children in an unconditional, non-hierarchical education setting.
