Take some time for yourself and discover how wonderful it can feel to let go and surrender into a slow Yin practice. In general, the Yin approach helps to promote flexibility in areas often perceived as non-malleable, especially in the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. Yin is an introspective practice that offers a chance to turn inwards and nurture the calm, quiet centre that is innate in all of us.
In Yin Yoga there is time: time to explore sensations; time to learn the appropriate depth for you in each posture; time to develop the habits of attending, noticing, and making appropriate decisions. This is one reason that Yin Yoga is so beneficial; you are provided time to get to know your body, what it needs, and what it does not need.
On a physical level, Yin Yoga targets and affects our deepest layers: the connective tissues, which include our fascia, ligaments, joints, cartilage, and bones. All tissues need exercise to regain and maintain optimal health, and these deeper tissues are no exception. But, to safely exercise the deeper, yin-like tissues of our body we need to use yin-like stresses. With the body supported by props, the muscles can let go and we can allow the pose to sink into the deeper tissues of the body. Through Yin Yoga we become adept at self-care, becoming better listeners with practice of tuning in, providing us some time to listen to our bodies.
After the Yin practice, Janine will guide you through a 25-minute Yoga Nidra meditation to help you deeply relax, so you can float off to sleep from the comfort of your own home. Yoga Nidra, also known as dynamic sleep, prompts the body to relax deeply while the mind remains inwardly alert - ultimately reaching a state between wakefulness and sleep. A deeply healing practice, 25 minutes of Yoga Nidra can equal 2 hours of deep sleep.
Open to all bodies and abilities. No previous yoga experience is necessary. No specialist equipment is required. Just grab a few pillows, blankets and hardcover books… whatever you can find to support you in the poses.
