(they/them)
Bigi is a certified parenting coach and founder of BG Parenting, based in Bristol. They are queer, polyamorous, and a solo parent of a neurodivergent teen. They specialise in helping parents in non-traditional families—LGBTQIA+, polyamorous, solo, and beyond—break free from societal expectations, set healthy boundaries, and parent with radical acceptance, creating a secure, connected family life on their own terms. They are an advocate for the respectful, gentle treatment of children.
Their journey into intentional parenting began with a tough realisation: the authoritarian approach they grew up with wasn’t fostering the loving relationship they wanted with their son. Inspired by Dr Laura Markham’s peaceful parenting principles, they embraced empathy, mutual respect, and emotional attunement—principles that transformed their family life, including the decision to home-educate. This shift sparked their passion for helping others create inclusive, connected homes, leading them to complete their certification with the Jai Institute for Parenting in 2022.
Beyond their formal training, BG’s work is deeply informed by their own journey of self-discovery and continuous learning. With a keen interest in the intersections of neuroscience, child development, attachment theory, emotional intelligence, and cultural conditioning, they bring a nuanced understanding of how family dynamics are shaped by both internal needs and external pressures. Their approach integrates needs-based communication and a trauma-informed perspective, helping parents cultivate strong, authentic relationships with their children while unlearning restrictive gender norms and inherited parenting scripts. Through a blend of insight, compassion, and practical strategies, they empower parents to trust themselves, honour their children’s autonomy, and build a parenting approach that aligns with their values.
