Yin Yang Yoga & Sleep Nidra

Monday 5th July (8pm-9.15pm BST)

£8 per person

With a yin yang yoga class we combine both a more dynamic style of yoga followed by some gentle yin poses. Yin Yang Yoga blends two styles of yoga into one practice – bringing together the benefits of passively holding yoga poses with more dynamic sequences. Yin is more internal, passive, cooling and downward. While Yang is more external, dynamic, warming and upward. The class will start with yang yoga- more dynamic heat and strength building sequences then will be followed by a restorative yin flow, ending with a relaxation.

The benefits

Everything has both yin and yang aspects, each is complementary, one cannot exist in balance without the other, and the two parts are greater together than they are on their own. Yin is characterised as slow, soft, and yielding, whereas yang is fast, hard and solid. In general, the Yin approach helps to promote flexibility in areas often perceived as non-malleable, especially in the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. Yin is an introspective practice that offers a chance to turn inwards and nurture the calm, quiet centre that is innate in all of us.

Yin allows us time to ‘be’, to be in the moment, still, present, it allows us a moment of peace, to stop and listen.

While faster, more muscular (yang) types of yoga emphasise internal heat and the lengthening and contraction of our muscles, yin yoga targets the deeper connective tissues – the ligaments, bones, and joints. So by combining both the yin and the yang into one class we have the advantage of bringing together a well-rounded balanced practice into our lives.

After the Yin practice, Janine will guide you through a short Yoga Nidra meditation to help you deeply relax, so you can float off to sleep from the comfort of your own home. Yoga Nidra, also known as dynamic sleep, prompts the body to relax deeply while the mind remains inwardly alert - ultimately reaching a state between wakefulness and sleep.

Open to all bodies and abilities. No previous yoga experience is necessary. No specialist equipment is required. Just grab a few pillows, blankets and hardcover books…whatever you can find to support you in the poses.

Join Janine as we explore the inward pull of our energy to find balance and clarity!

This practice is for everyone.

Session delivered on zoom.
