A fun word games session where children can become more comfortable using descriptive language and speaking in front of their peers, while practising and expanding their vocabulary.
Both native English speakers and children who are learning English as an additional language [EAL] are welcome to participate in this session.
Sessions will be child-led so while certain word games will be chosen prior to the class, children are welcome to evolve the games, introduce new ones they may know of, or create their own as the session progresses. Games the class may include:
What’s That Word - children endeavour to describe a word to their peers without using the word itself while the other players attempt to guess the word
Unscrambler - children are given a set of letters and work together to see how many different words they can create using only those letters
We Went Shopping - children practise their vocabulary and memory skills by expanding on the statement of the previous player about what was bought at the shops
I Spy - children will describe an object that they are thinking of and other players have to guess what they are describing
Word Twins - the first player will say a descriptive word and the second player will say a word related to or described by the first word
Play word games and strengthen language skills with language arts educator, EAL teacher, and games lover, Unity Bowling.
Ideal for ages 9 - 12 years
