Free Taster Session!

Free!

“Books and doors are the same thing. You open them, and you go through into another world.”, Jeanette Winterson once commented. Reading a book really feels like travelling to another place and we all like to speak about our travels so why not sign your child up for our free taster session and we can all talk about our adventures together!

There is so much rich learning to be gained through the medium of narrative, as well as factual, writing. This can be extended and elaborated on via conversational learning and sharing with others and that is what we aim to do in this club.

We may decide to explore books through drama, writing our own books or in a myriad of other ways depending on the interests of the children.

Things we might talk about include…

  • Narrative and storytelling

  • Different forms of writing and writing styles

  • Word meanings and sentence structure

  • Types of words and their uses

  • Genres of writing

  • The use of images to support and compliment narrative

  • Any theme present in books

  • Empathy and points of view

Hosted and facilitated by childminder, home educator and avid reader, Jay Byrd.

Young people are encouraged to bring books they enjoy to share with the group. All forms of experiencing writing are welcome (including audiobooks), no particular level of reading or writing is required.

All our sessions are child-led, gentle and inclusive. If your child enjoys this taster, why not sign them up for our 6-session block?

Ideal for ages 7-12 years
